AFTER MORE THAN A DECADE OF WORK, THOUGHT MATTER HAS CONCLUDED ITS PRACTICE.

When I joined Thought Matter to lead creative in 2024 I immediately felt that anything was possible.

In just the first five months, I led all of the studio’s creative projects with the team, which included our studio rebrand, rebranding a local nitro beer, branding and designing a fintech app, designing a campaign for NYC’s street vendors, designing a mural with a 150-year-old nude painting, holding a voter registration event, a rally to vote, concepting and designing the annual holiday gift, and even launching an internship cohort program.

I took the role seriously. The way I saw it, I was a steward of the legacy of Thought Matter. I got to present past work in a fresh way, while creating new work by applying my experience to expand the services we offered.

Each week, we met as a team to discuss projects and pipelines, and afterwards, founder Tom Jaffe would share clippings from the five newspapers he read daily. This would lead to all sorts of discussions around what was happening in the business world, in the marketplace, and in culture. Along the way, we would hear stories of his late life-partner Donna Torrance and how she inspired him to start Thought Matter. So when we were nominated for the National Design Award from Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian, there was no doubt in my mind that we should respond.

As you may already know, we accepted the award at the gala in May. It was truly an honor, and, as it turns out, our final act.

Thought Matter closed its doors at the end of June 2026. This website remains online as an archive of the work, ideas, and relationships that shaped the studio.

I want to personally thank all of the clients, partners, and team who trusted in Thought Matter along the way. You helped an underdog studio become a national treasure. Anything really is possible.

I hope to see you around.

Sincerely,

Able Parris
